15-Year-Old Girl’s Amazing Speech Leaves Anti-Gun Politicians Speechless
Gun control is always a hot-button issue in our country, but ultimately our founding fathers found it necessary to guarantee our right to self defense.
While many outspoken young people have vocalized their support of strong gun control, and possibly amending or removing the 2nd amendment, one 15-year old girl’s statement from 2013 to congress has been viewed by tens of millions of people around the globe.
Sarah Merkle, then a sophomore in high school, spoke out against gun-control in front of congress saying that more laws hindering gun owners would not lead to less violence.
“Ever since I first learned how to shoot, the issue with gun violence around the nation became clear — guns are not the problem, people are,” Merkle then told lawmakers. “Purging our society of violence and murder cannot be done by gun control legislation.”
“Guns are not needed for mass murder,” Merkle went on to say. “Robbing American citizens over rights to own them won’t solve anything.”
After she had spoken to congress Merkle was asked about her statement going viral. “The biggest part of this is that the pro-gun, Second Amendment argument is getting publicity,” she told the Washington Times. “I like that it actually got out there, and not just because it’s me, but because it’s the argument.”
This young woman is spot on. There are no laws that would prevent a criminal from obtaining a firearm. The only people who would be impacted are those already following the law.
Too often you hear people say “we don’t want to take your guns, we just want common sense reform.” They throw “common sense” around as though everyone has already come to an agreement on the subject. Perhaps those afraid of being the victim of gun violence would benefit from learning how to use a firearm. Maybe then they would understand that a gun in the hand of someone who knows how to use it poses no threat to anyone.
