Walmart To Ban Handguns and Open Carry In Response To Mass Shootings
Walmart has announced that it is pulling itself completely out of the handgun category, no longer selling the product in any of its retail stores around the country.
Additionally, in a call with the media, the company’s executive vice president of corporate affairs, Dan Bartlett, said that Walmart will also discontinue the sale of short-barrel rifle ammunition, such as the .223 caliber and 5.56 caliber, and completely discontinuing the sale of handgun ammunition.
But as if this wasn’t enough to make you pick a new place to do your grocery shopping, Walmart is now telling it’s customers that they cannot protect themselves while shopping. Specifically, Walmart is going to be banning people from open-carrying in its stores, with the only exception being law enforcement. Doug McMillon, Walmart’s CEO, released a statement to employees regarding the new policy:
“We believe the opportunity for someone to misinterpret a situation, even in open carry states, could lead to tragic results,” CEO Doug McMillon said in a memo distributed to employees on Tuesday. “We hope that everyone will understand the circumstances that led to this new policy and will respect the concerns of their fellow shoppers and our associates.”…“We’ve also been listening to a lot of people inside and outside our company as we think about the role we can play in helping to make the country safer. It’s clear to us that the status quo is unacceptable.”
Of course, Democratic politicians saw this as their chance to jump on the hot story, and show just how much they hate guns. Elizabeth Warren took to twitter to say that Walmart’s move was a “good start — but it’s not nearly enough. Walmart can and should do much more. And we need real gun reform, now.” Not to be out-shined though, Bernie Sanders made his own statement saying, “I applaud the brave Walmart workers who called on the company to stop selling guns. This is a good step, but we still have a gun violence crisis.”
The NRA took a different, more patriotic approach. The type of approach that American’s should take whenever they see their fundamental rights being taken away one by one.
"It is shameful to see @Walmart succumb to the pressure of the anti-gun elites. Lines at Walmart will soon be replaced by lines at other retailers who are more supportive of America’s fundamental freedoms."

What Walmart, and apparently all of the democratic candidates, don’t seem to understand is the fact that criminals are going to break the law, end of story. Adding more laws that simply limit innocent, law-abiding citizens from their constitutional right to protect themselves and their families is not the way to end gun violence or mass-shootings. Quite the contrary actually, as places where guns are prohibited have been the obvious targets of attack by these criminals, for the obvious reason that no one there will have a gun.
The fact that is overlooked the most in that GUNS SAVE LIVES! A study completed by the Centers for Disease Control found that:
“Studies that directly assessed the effect of actual defensive uses of guns (i.e., incidents in which a gun was ‘used’ by the crime victim in the sense of attacking or threatening an offender) have found consistently lower injury rates among gun-using crime victims compared with victims who used other self-protective strategies. … Almost all national survey estimates indicate that defensive gun uses by victims are at least as common as offensive uses by criminals, with estimates of annual uses ranging from about 500,000 to more than 3 million per year, in the context of about 300,000 violent crimes involving firearms in 2008.”
In other words, guns save hundreds of thousands, if not millions of lives every year. The Second Amendment was meant for responsible Americans who follow the law to have every means of protection at their disposal. Anyone who says different is probably a democrat running for president.
