Former president Barack Obama made headlines this week for delivering what many in the media have called a “scathing” speech against president Trump.
During his speech at the University of Illinois, Obama took credit for the country’s recent economic success, telling the audience to “remember when this recovery started.” He also took jabs at Trump, saying that the current president is trying to divide the people.
When asked whether or not he had seen the speech, Trump told a crowd that he had indeed seen the speech, but his response was not what people were expecting.
While campaigning for North Dakota senate candidate Kevin Cramer, Trump addressed the topic of Obama’s speech.
“A very popular guy was just interviewing me… and he asked me ‘what’d you think of president Obama’s speech?'” the president said. “I said, ‘I’m sorry. I watched it, but I fell asleep.”
Trump continued, saying that “I find he’s very good for sleeping.”
After the crowd’s laughter died down, Trump made sure to call out Obama for “trying to take credit for this incredible thing that’s happening to our country.”
“If the democrats got in with their agenda in November of almost two years ago, instead of having 4.2 up, I believe you’d be, honestly, negative 4.2 down.”
Trump didn’t stop there. He went on to say that the recovery during the previous administration had been the “weakest” since the great depression.
Could you imagine what things would be like had Hillary won the election? Chances are the economy would not be nearly as strong. Thank goodness we have a leader who understands what it takes to truly make America great.
