Jury Finds DPD Officer Amber Guyger Guilty In Shooting Of Botham Jean

The Dallas police officer who entered the wrong apartment was found guilty of murder today by a jury of her peers.

Amber Guyger had entered the apartment of Botham Jean and proceeded to shoot the unarmed man, ultimately killing him. After less than 24 hours of deliberation, the jury found the defendant guilty of murder.

The case drew national attention for obvious reasons. Here was a white police officer shooting an unarmed black man in his own home.

The next step in the quest for justice is sentencing. Based on the charges, Guyger is facing between 5 and 99 years in prison.

“There’s joy and pain in this same moment,” noted a host from Dallas’ Fox 4. “We have to remember, there were two families in there.”

Hopefully the families will be able to heal, and move forward from this horrible tragedy.
