If you’ve ever flown with Delta Airlines, chances are you’ve run into a few bumps along the way. Well these passengers had to overcome more than just bumps in order to finally reach their destination.
Thursday, passengers from Delta Airlines Flight 2385 from New York to Miami were apparently delayed and left on the plane for almost 8 HOURS before finally taking off. But it only gets worse from their. One of the stranded flight passengers tweeted a video of police responding to a call from on the plane that a fight was breaking out among a few fellow passengers, with the tweet reading:
@Delta 8 HOURS and counting. Captain had “no idea” where the ground crew was. Parked in a “remote gate” in JFK. No food, no water. A fight broke out, police was called. A NIGHTMARE. @nytimes @ABC pic.twitter.com/iUHjZqofy8

A nightmare, indeed. Leaving passengers for 8 hours with seemingly little to no explanation as to why the plane hasn’t taken off, much less when the plane actually will take off is a terrible way to treat your customers. Now, no one is blaming the pilots, or even the flight crew really. Instead, people are outraged at how poorly this entire situation, start to finish, was handled by Delta Airlines as a whole. In a second tweet, this passenger lays it out perfectly, saying:
“This has gotten out of control – there are people fighting each other and it’s gotten both verbal and physical. Police are on the plane! Complete chaos! I understand weather delays and we all want to be safe but this is not about weather but about how Delta has handled it.”
Here’s yet another tweet from a passenger showing even more of the chaos taking place on-board this flight-from-hell:
👇🏼A small sample of the increasing chaos happening right now aboard Miami -bound Delta 2385.
It’s sitting on the tarmac at JFK for 8hrs now (!)… passengers kept onboard with no clear info and now armed officers responding to a fight…@Delta ? Response? pic.twitter.com/UgHhmGMJ59

Delta has released their own statement regarding the situation, denying a few of the accusations over the conditions on the plane. Delta claimed, contrary to the tweet mentioned earlier, that passengers were not denied food or water and were given the option of a bus to bring them back to the airport. HOWEVER, with the number of people seen still on the plane in the videos after 8 HOURS, it seems like these passengers were either not given that option at all or were not given any information about the situation of the flight.
Although the flight was scheduled to depart at 3:52pm, the plane finally took off between 11:30-11:45pm. It’s a good thing this flight was to Miami, because I think these people are going to need a vacation after this terrible experience.
No matter how you look at it, this was a gross mishandling of an unfortunate situation. May I suggest using Delta with extreme caution.
