When tragedy strikes like it did last week in El Paso or Dayton, Ohio, to say that those events are disruptive to our daily lives is a massive understatement.
We as a society are wired to find out why things happen, and even though these types of events have taken place more and more in recent years we come up with practically the same answers or reasons. It’s just that with every subsequent event the shouting gets louder and louder, and still nothing gets done.
Could it be that societies problems are deeper than the solutions we offer?
Oprah Winfrey thinks so.
In a recent interview with Extra, Winfrey shared her real thoughts,
“I think what people are missing is a core moral center.”
She went on to explain at a red carpet event,
“Churches used to do that. It was a central place you could come to and there was a core center of values about a way of living and being in the world. Until we can return to that, however that is, in whatever form, we will continue to be lost.”
Is she right?
America was never perfect, but it was made great because a Christian world view was dominant moral compass in the land. When school prayer was eliminated in 1962, things began to decline rapidly.
The enemy of man’s souls knew that if it could stop children from talking to their Creator, then it wouldn’t be long before they would forget about Him altogether.
If Jesus is the vine and we’re the branches, and we’re cut off from the vine, how long can we survive without receiving nourishment?
Now let that simple ruling play out over fifty years, and we thoroughly live in a post-modern, post-God, post-Church society. The church no longer influences culture, but culture influences the church.
As people en masse are dependent on medicines prescribed for mental health issues no one is turning to the Bible to heal their minds and their emotions.
The Bible plainly tells us in 2 Chronicles 7:14
“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
The cure for the land is Jesus, and the Bible promises to HEAL our land if we serve Him.
