The B-52 Stratofortress has been in service for sixty four years, and it doesn’t look like it’s slowing down anytime soon.
In fact, it was just reported that a B-52 had just set a record for ‘dropping the most laser guided bombs. The previous record was 19, but on this run the seasoned bomber dropped 24 precision weapons, each weighing around 2,000 pounds each!
This bombing run was carried out against the Taliban in Badakhshan province, Afghanistan. The US military said in a statement to CBS News that they chose to target,
“Taliban training facilities in Badakhshan province, preventing the planning and rehearsal of terrorist acts near the border with China and Tajikistan. The strikes also destroyed stolen Afghan National Army vehicles that were in the process of being converted to vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices.”
