Papa John’s spends millions of dollars every year on ads for their products during NFL games. One side effect of the NFL decision to let “take a knee” continue is that the pizza company has been losing sales as ticket holders stop buying and skip games.
CEO and founder John Schnatter slammed NFL leadership today and decided to pull all of their ads from NFL games.
In a call with investors this week Schnatter said:
“The NFL has hurt us by not resolving the current debacle to the players’ and owners’ satisfaction. NFL leadership has hurt Papa John’s shareholders. Leadership starts at the top, and this is an example of poor leadership,”
Schnatter did not only stop the TV ads, he also removed all the NFL logos and branding from the Papa John’s website. He says that “negative consumer sentiment” is clear. “Take A Knee” is causing people to boycott the NFL and companies that sponsor it.
